Happy St. Patrick's Day 2007

After a few warm spring-like days earlier this week, we got socked with an ice storm yesterday. It started out with 18 hours of rain, followed by sleet and freezing rain. I didn't know there was a difference between sleet and freezing rain and since I didn't go to Meteorology school, I'll take the word of the weatherman that there is a difference. Either way, it had to be shoveled. And, the St. Patrick's Day parade was cancelled.

What a nice little surprise, daffodils peeking out of the muck...

a sure sign that Spring can't be far behind.
.
It almost looks like cotton batting in the photo, but trust me - it was ice.

I've been working away on Daisy Vines and I have the borders on (yipee!) This quilt came from the McCall's Quick Quilts magazine and there has been nothing "quick" about it. I really think that I could have done the blanket stitch by hand faster than I did by machine.

The border will get vines and leaves with a light blue daisy in each corner.

It's a little smaller than I thought it would be (and for all of the work that went into it), but it will look nice draped over the back of my sofa. I really like this quilt and I'll like it even better when it's DONE....

Yesterday was Bailey's 6th birthday and he was so happy with his birthday treats. Bailey just loves his toys to death. His favorite is a tennis ball, but a close second is those goofy looking loofa dogs.

May you always have
Walls for the winds,
A roof for the rain,
Tea beside the fire,
Laughter to cheer you,
Those you love near you,
And all your heart might desire

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I love the spring quilt! I have found that some of the quilts in Quick Quilts are not "quick" for me also. :) We are looking for spring here too--it seems that the cold weather does not want to leav us.

Cute doggie and I like the blessing. Your daffodils are pretty in the ice, but I know it's not fun to deal with.

Your post today was inspiring. Love the daffodils-- I just have to keep faith that that will happen up here. I need the blue daisy quilt--- I love blue and green together. Life is better with a pet-- he's ready for the holiday.

I love the colors in this quilt. It's perfect for spring...which does seem to be taking the scenic route to more than one place this year. Hopefully it will arrive where you live soon.
Happy birthday to sweet Bailey!

Happy belated St. Patricks day. Too bad about the weather :(

The quilt really is a cute quilt - but I don't think any quilt that involves any sort of applique could be considered "quick" at least not in my books - LOL

But it will look great when it's finished.

Happy quilting and Happy Birthday Bailey.

Happy Birthday, Bailey! (Hannes loves those Bobo dogs, too!!) The daisy vines are so pretty; just the thing for a cold and gray, sleety day.

I'll also sing praises about that pretty spring quilt.

Sleet and freezing rain are different. Sleet is a mixture of snow and rain. Usually more snow than rain. Freezing rain is really sort of eerie the first time you see it. It's just regular rain, and looks like regular rain. No snow in it at all. The difference is that it falls on frozen ground and freezes as soon as it hits the ground. We get that around here way more than either snow or sleet. It happens because the upper layers of air are warm and it's just right at ground level where it's cold. It doesn't fall through enough cold air to become snow or sleet before it hits the ground. However, the end result is the same - a world covered with ice. Though freezing rain doesn't produce anything white on the ground like your picture. It's more like looking through a clear ice cube - except the ice isn't cube shaped.
